History
and Description:
In the Spring of 1976, A group of men from St. Leo The Great Church
and St. Philip The Apostle Church were called together to consider
the possibility of forming a new council of the Knights of Columbus
in the suburban west area of Lancaster. Preliminary applications
and forms were completed, and the Elizabeth Ann Seton Council
was chartered on May 16,1976 and given the number 6810. The name
was chosen because Mother Seton, a devout advocate of Catholic
education, had recently been canonized.
The first
recorded meeting of the New Council was held on June 8, 1976.
In mid-1978 Brother Bill Hurley became the Pro-Life Chairman.
Pro-life activities have been one of the focuses of the council.
Because of
Council 6810's commitment to participating in and supporting various
charitable activities, they earned the coveted "Star Council Award"
for seven consecutive years during the first decade of the council.
Council 6810
celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 4,1996 with a dinnner dance
at St. John Neumann Church Hall, with Supreme Director Albert
J. Benedetti, PSD as guest speaker. The council committed their
next twenty years to continued support of Pro-Life causes, Catholic
Education, charities, and expanded membership.
