1st Annual Fr. Joe Celia Memorial 3v3 Basketball

Many
parishioners know that Father Joe was very interested in the youth
of our parish. In his memory, our Youth Ministry and Athletic
Association hosted the 1st Annual Fr. Joe Celia Memorial 3v3 Basketball
Tournament
in June, 2005, for both boys and girls in grades 3-12. This was
a fundraiser for both organizations.

is limited for each age category as we will have between 8-16
teams per age group. First come, first served!
What
The St. Leo Youth Ministry and the St. Leo Athletic Association
will be hosting a 3v3 basketball tournament for both boys and
girls in grades 3-12 in memory of Fr. Joe Celia. This is a fundraiser
for both organizations
When & Where
Thursday night June 9 beginning at 6pm: Boys currently in grades
3-4, 5-6.
Friday night June 10 beginning at 6pm: Girls currently in grades
3-4, 5-6, 7-8.
Saturday, June 11 beginning at 3pm: Boys currently in grades 7-8,
9-10 and 11-12 as well as Girls currently in grades 9-12.
All games will be in St. Leo Gym.
Who
This is open to St. Leo Parishioners and school families. The
teams of 4 must have at least one member who is a current, registered
parishioner of St. Leo's parish or school.
The age categories will be: Boys currently in grades: 3-4; 5-6;
7-8; 9-10; 11-12.
Girls currently in grades: 3-4; 5-6; 7-8 and 9-12.
Team placement is based on oldest member of each team. Teams of
4 players are suggested, however, you may submit a team of 3.
You may register individually and request to be placed on a team.
We will do our best to accommodate this but cannot guarantee placement
on a team.
Cost
Teams of 4 players are $60. Checks are to be made payable to:
St. Leo Athletic Association. Teams with less than 4 players are
$15 per player. Please submit only one check from each team!

Basic Rules
There will be 4 games going on at one time in the gym - one at
each of the four side baskets. Each game will be played on half
of the court. Each game will be a maximum of 20 minutes or 21
points whichever comes first. There will be a referee at each
basket. More detailed rules will be posted here when available.
How to Get Involved
- Fill out the registration
form or pick up a registration form at the youth bulletin
board in the church. Include the team captain who will be notified
of any last minute changes and will be the contact person at registration.
- Send one check made payable to "SLAA" for $60 for a team of
4 or $15 per person for teams with less than 4 players. If you
wish to have another player or 2, please indicate. If you are
registering by yourself and wish to be placed on a team, please
indicate this as well.
- Register by May 20. Drop the form and fee off at the St. Leo
rectory to the attention of Mary Ellen Reitmeyer or mail to:

- Check the web site for the brackets by June 2.
How Can I Help?
This tournament is a fund raiser for the St. Leo Youth Ministry
and the St. Leo Athletic Association.
- Donations of food and supplies for the concessions are greatly
appreciated. Contact Mary Ellen Reitmeyer at 394-1035 or youth_ministry@stleos.org.
- We are also in need of sponsors for the t-shirts. Sponsor logos
will be placed on the t-shirts. Contact Carol Gibbons at 285-9706
or email cmgibbons@comcast.net.
- Volunteers are needed to operate the concession stand.
- Referees.

Fr. Joseph A. Celia Living Legacy Fund
|
Father
Joe loved working with young people and spent his priesthood in
parish and campus ministry. To honor him, the Fr. Joseph A. Celia
Living Legacy Fund has been established. This endowment will fund
a scholarship in his name for an eighth grader who plans to attend
Lancaster Catholic High School.

As
a tribute to Father Joe, a special edition of our parish newsletter,
The Scepter, was issued in March, 2005. The special edition honored
and recognized his life both as a youth and his years in the priesthood.
